Special Prosecutor nominee Martin Amidu has said that he has not conceived any idea to run for president.

Mr Amidu, who was a former running mate of the Late John Evans Atta Mills in the 2000 elections explained that he was approached by some powerful individuals to contest as an independent candidate yet he turned down the advice as he has not considered such an ambition.

“Mr chairman, I was running mate in 2000 [elections] if I had presidential ambitions I am sure you would have seen it, I don’t even have money to bring people here and feed them, how would I go and run for President…I don’t even have the resources to go round.

“So as I sit here for now, I don’t have presidential ambitions,” Mr Amidu told parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, 13 February.

Meanwhile, Mr Amidu has allayed fears that he will be partial in the execution of his job as Special Prosecutor if approved by parliament.

There have been concerns expressed by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) about his neutrality ever since he was named by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for that role.

Although he is a member of the NDC, some members of the party have expressed fears that he will go after them following his numerous spats and corruption allegations against the Mahama administration.
