Ghana international and Fortuna Dusseldorf defender Kasim Nuhu says he is thrilled at the prospect of playing football again but admits it will be odd without fans in attendance.

Nuhu is one of at least five Ghanaians in the German top flight who could be back in action this weekend as the Bundesliga prepares to become the first top flight league to return after a long coronavirus-induced break.

The Germans have put in place a series of measures that include separate arrival of teams, no handshakes, social distancing inside the dressing and several protocols.

Nuhu also says players have to do their training laundry themselves as part of measures but he is keen to see football back even though one of the conditions doesn’t sit well with him.

“It is very exciting to play again but one painful thing is that football is always better with fans. Playing behind closed doors will affect some of us because we have always played in front of our amazing fans,” he told Juliet Bawuah during a live conversation on TV3‘s Instagram page.

“We are also battling relegation and we need our fans to cheer us up but we also have to understand the circumstances.”

For Nuhu, the opportunity to play again is also an opportunity to become better in a league he has struggled to cope with since his arrival from Switzerland.

“It hasn’t been easy for me since I came from Switzerland to Hoffenheim. They bought me at a huge price, which I haven’t been able to repay them with a performance that I like,” he said.

“I got injured during my first few games and was out for 2 months and after returning, I wasn’t getting enough playing time so I decided to go on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf in order to get more playing time but I got injured again.

“So, coming to Germany has been too hard for me in terms of injuries. It has not allowed me to play to the level I was in Switzerland but as time goes on, I know I will get my rhythm again and make it in the Bundesliga.”
