As the race for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership slot heats up, presidential hopeful, Sylvester Mensah has launched a scathing attack on National Organizer of the party, Kofi Adams.
Commenting on former President Mahama’s declaration of intent to join the flagbearership race via his Facebook wall, Kofi Adams said on 3FM Monday, “If I look into the crystal ball, I can say that we will be having president Mahama back in 2021 in this country, considering the huge support he is enjoying and the failure of this present administration.”
When asked if he was not taking a biased position as a national executive, he responded, “…I am saying that I am happy that he is joining the race. I thought he would not join. That does not mean that no other person has got a right to join…I am just happy as a party person. Being happy doesn’t make you biased.”
But it appears Kofi Adams’ comment has angered Sylvester Mensah who told Kwakye Afreh Nuamah on 3FM’s MIDDAY NEWS, “I think Kofi Adams has lost his legitimacy as national organizer of the party. I think he has abandoned his job. He has just moved far away from what the demands of his job require, so I don’t recognize him in that capacity anymore even though he is the elected national organizer.”
Sylvester Mensah also refused to rule out the possibility of joining forces with any of the other candidates to beat the former head of state, ahead of the flagbearership election.
He told Afreh, “This is one of many options…This hasn’t really crossed our minds in anyway. It hasn’t crossed my mind. And I am saying it is one of many options….Who knows. Time will tell.”
Other key figures of the party including Prof Joshua Alabi, Alban Bagbin and Ekow Spio Gabrah have all declared their interest in becoming flagbearer although the party is yet to officially open nominations
