Board Chairman of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has lauded the staff of the hospital for remaining committed to their duties during the Christmas holidays.

Dr. Okoe Boye paid a surprise visit to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) to appreciate their sacrifices and dedication to their duties. He also presented gifts in the form of meals to the staff while touring the unit.

“Today, myself and the CEO representing the board and management decided to visit the doctors on duty who were at the emergency unit and it was refreshing to see doctors being on patients trying to make sure that they save their lives. I’m happy to have known that patients were driven all the way from Volta region and brought to Korle-Bu because they have trust in this facility and because some hospitals, unfortunately, are on shadow break because of the festivities,” Dr Okoe Boye said.

He expressed delight in the timeliness of the staff workers in handling emergencies that were reported at the hospital prior to and during the Christmas celebration.

“I’m very much aware that health workers, doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, orderlies on such days [Christmas holidays] instead of being with their families come to the hospital to make sure that they save our brothers and sisters who are in trouble, make sure that they live. These are some of the commitments and sacrifices that doctors at Korle-Bu and across the country make,” he added.

The Board Chairman of the KBTH disclosed that plans are underway to refurbish some dilapidated facilities within the hospital due to its century-old period of existence.

“Korle-Bu is going to be a 100 years in three years’ time so some of the facilities here are a century old. That means that there is a lot of capital investment that must be done in Korle-Bu. The surgical block needs refurbishment,” Dr Bernard Okoe Boye stated.
