An Accra Circuit Court has convicted two of the accused persons in the Kwabenya cell break incident based on their own plea and shall be sentenced on 13 February.
The court, presided by Justice Aboagye Tandoh further remanded the remaining accused persons in police custody after they had pleaded not guilty to the three counts of charges preferred against them.
The judge also entreated the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to expedite action to complete investigations into the matter and also seek the Attorney General's input where necessary.
He also reminded counsel for the other accused persons to be mindful in making any application regarding their clients.
It will be recalled that seven suspected criminals broke cell at the Kwabenya police station on Sunday, 21 January 2018. The seven suspects were assisted by a group of armed robbers to escape from police custody and the attack led to the death of one police officer at the station.
