Ghana’s contingent in the CAF Confederation Cup, AshantiGold come up against their Moroccan counterparts, RS Berkane in first leg game today, Saturday at 3:00 pm at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
The Miners progressed in the preliminary round after defeating Equatoguinean side Akonangui FC in a two-legged encounter.
Ashgold have had an easy ride so far in the competition but this afternoon they face a real test to demonstrate that they belong at this level.
Berkane are coming back into the competition after missing out on the CAF Confederation Cup final to Zamalek last season.
Despite their huge pedigree, Berkane have not impressed many this season after winning just one game, losing and drawing two each in their last five matches.
The defending champions of the Moroccan throne Cup were recently booted out by Chabab Atlas Khenifra.
AshantiGold, however, are in good stead after securing the BK Edusei Cup trophy over regional rivals Asante Kotoko beating them 4-3 on penalties after a goalless scoreline.
Ricardo Da Rocha’s men have won three of the last five games, drawing and losing one each in their last outings.
