Legal Council constitutes Committee to investigate mass failure at law school

The Ghana Legal Council (GLC) has constituted a Committee to look into recent mass failure in the Professional Law Examinations.

The unprecedented failures in the past few years have raised concerns among prospective students and the general public.

The law student body has even petitioned parliament and the Legal Council to intervene and deal with the matter.

It is on the back of these developments that the Legal Council established a Committee led by her Ladyship Justice Sophia Adinyira to investigate the matter and find solutions it.

“As an immediate measure, the GLC acting through its Chairperson, her Ladyship the Chief Justice, has constituted a Committee chaired by her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Sophia Adinyira, Justice of the Supreme Court, to investigate the causes and make appropriate short, medium and long-term recommendations to the Council.”

The GLC has asked the general public to submit any relevant information that will assist the committee to the Judicial Secretary.

They noted that aside the constitution of the Committee to investigate the matter, the statement said there are systems in place through which aggrieved students can lodge complaints for review of results.

The Council further stated that they are keen on churning out the best of lawyers in the country, hence, there are stringent measures in place towards achieving this.

“It is the avowed aim of the GLC to ensure that only stellar and internationally competitive lawyers are produced from the various tertiary institutions irrespective of a person’s status in society.”

The Council also stressed on it commitment to collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure that all issues affecting legal education are dealt with.

“The GLC wishes to assure the public that it is committed to ensuring the integrity of the Bar examination process and outcomes.”
