Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has said that “let us pray that we achieve” President Nana Akufo-Addo’s pledge of making Ghana’s capital the cleanest in the whole of Africa by the end of his first four-year term.

The President made that pledge exactly two years ago in an address he delivered on 24 April 2017 after he had been installed a chief by the people of Jamestown and the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council under the title Nii Kwaku Abladey Okudzeaman I, which means ‘Royal Warrior who champions the welfare of his people’.

The pledge was thus: “The commitment we are making and which I want you all to make with me is that by the time we end our four-year term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa,” he stated.

When she took her turn at the Meet The Press series on Tuesday, 23 April 2019, however, Mrs Dapaah told journalists that: “The President will go for two terms and at the end of that term, Accra would have been [the cleanest city] and we are on course”.

According to her, “God is in control and the battle is still the Lords”, as far as achieving the president’s 24 April 2017 promise is concerned.

Speaking to Benjamin Akakpo in an interview on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Wednesday, a day after her encounter with the press, Mrs Dapaah clarified that: “We are sticking to what His Excellency said”, adding: “Let us pray that we achieve this. This will be wonderful. Thank you”.

She said: “We are on course. We are not going to fold our hands in our laps. We are on course”.
