Major Mahama’s widow under ‘black veil’ during final funeral rites in Tumu

The final funeral rites of the late Major Maxwell Adam was held at his paternal home of Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region on Saturday June 17, 2017.

In attendance were the Deputy Upper West regional Minister, Mr Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, representatives from the military high command, paramount chiefs of the Sissala Traditional Area, relations and members of the respective communities around Tumu.

It was however observed that the widow, Barbara Mahama while the celebrations were ongoing, covered her face with a black veil ostensibly not to shake hands with mourners.

But one of the organizers told mynewsgh.com that it was not part of the customs and traditions of the people explaining that when musketries were being fired as part of the celebrations, she had to cover her face in order not to see what was going on.

According to him, the shots were so loud and were bringing back memories of how her late husband was shot several times by irate residents of Denkyira-Boase who mistook him for a robber.

Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, who was the Commander of a military detachment stationed at Denkyira-Boase in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, was lynched by residents after they suspected he was a robber.

52 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident and have been remanded by an Accra Central District Court including; Akwasi Baah, Solomon Sackey, Kwame Agyei, Joseph Appiah Kubi (aka Kum Dede), Akosua Takyiwaa (aka Maabono), Esther Dauda (aka Asha) and Michael Kumah (aka Kojo Anim) to reappear on June 21, 2017.
