My greatest regret is not winning a cup for Ghana - Sam Johnson
Ghanaian soccer legend Sam Johnson has revealed the happiest moment and greatest regret of his footballing career.
Sam Johnson enjoyed a football of career 15 years and came close to winning the Africa Cup a couple of times.
Reflecting on his career in an interview with GhanaWeb, Foyoo who feels satisfied with what he achieved as a footballer reckons winning a cup for would have made his career a perfect one.
Despite success at club level with the likes of Hearts of Oak, Anderlecht and Fenerbahce, Foyoo failed to win a trophy for Ghana and that is something he still broods over.
“My greatest regret is I never won anything for Ghana. I did not play in the junior so I can’t talk about that but my greatest regret is not winning for Ghana”.
On the happiest moment of his career, Foyoo picked an Anderlecht game against Galatasary in which he scored the winning goal.
“My happiest moment is when I beat Galatasary 1-0. That game was our hell because we played at their home ground. They were on fire, they had just beaten Arsenal in the European Cup final and they beat Real Madrid in the Champions of Champions so you can imagine the kind of team we were playing with”.
“They had more than 26 chance and we never had one. Everybody was looking at one side in the first half. In the second half too, everybody was looking at one side.
So the only time we went there we scored. We had a free kick and I scored. And we were very happy like it is our champions league” he said.
Sam Johnson retired in 2006 with a career total of 398 games, scoring 43 goals in the process
