The National Organizer for the National Democratic Party (NDC) Kofi Adams, says it is not surprising the defeat of former Ashanti Regional Minister Joseph Yamin, who attempted the chairmanship slot for the party in the region over the weekend.

Joseph Yamin was beaten by some 88 votes to his closest contender Augustus Andrew Nana Kwasi despite the support he had from the party’s vigilante group ‘The Hawks’.

Speaking to Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa Fm, Adams said the toughness of the election gave no candidate advantage over the other as most candidates put in their maximum best in ensuring victory for themselves.

“We were not surprise, it was a tough contest and there were a lot of success that went into that very election, it is not everything that we will make public because some of it are sensitive. We needed to do some selection and we have done so and we all respect the elections from the various regions, which is in the greater interest of the party. Yamin is not out of the party, so any idea or plans he has for the improvement of the party will still be taken on board” he said.

There were reports on Saturday that Mr. Yamin had stormed the Kumawu conference hall where the party’s regional executive election was ongoing with a vigilante group called The Hawks, which delayed polls on Saturday.

It took the intervention of the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to restore calm at the centre.

The race, which was fiercely contested between Nana Kwasi and Mr. Yamin saw Nana Kwasi win the seat with 699 votes while Joseph Yamin garnered 611 votes.

The newly elected regional chairman, Augustus Andrew Nana Kwasi thanking delegates for their nod, called for collaboration between all factions of the party.

“We should have a united front to fight for power in 2020. It is the party that has won and not an individual and so to all my contenders, the factions have all been dissolved today, now we know everyone is capable and so we are calling everyone on board to work immediately. We will not wait any longer, since we have been given the go ahead, we must start working so we can produce good accountability of our works at the end of our 4year tenure.”
