The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region has slammed the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, George Mireku-Duker for allegedly showing gross disrespect to the chiefs and people of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area.

The NDC in a press conference addressed by its constituency secretary, Mr George Gad claimed that George Mireku-Duker since his election as Member of Parliament for the area has consistently shown gross disrespect to the Chiefs and people of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area in general, which he does mostly with his cohorts in their commentaries on issues affecting the people in the constituency and also at events organized by himself or his appendages.

Mr George Gad in his statement disclosed that the recent outburst of Mr Mireku-Duker was at his Christmas Thanksgiving Service held on December 27, 2019, at the Cyanide Park, where he disrespectfully proclaimed to the hearing of everyone gathered that Wassa Fiase is bereft of competent leaders.

According to him the Ashanti and Eastern regions have people he referred to as "BIG CHIEFS" who usually speak to the president and lobby on behalf of their constituencies.

"He disrespectfully claimed that those of us from Wassa do not have people “BIG MEN” with the required capacity and the clout to speak to the President before he Mireku Duker gets to speak to the President and that he is the one who is being nurtured for that responsibility in the near future", they claimed.

They have therefore given Mr Mireku-Duker a 72-hours ultimatum to apologise to the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council.

"The NDC together with the good people of Wassa Fiase wish to call on the MP to as a matter of urgency and with immediate effect render an unqualified public apology and unreserved retraction of these disrespectful and insulting comments on the chiefs and the good people of Wassa Fiase. This public apology must be done within the next 72 hours from today", they emphasized.
