The late Major Maxwell Mahama who was a Captain before his death got promoted posthumously by President Akufo-Addo who doubles as the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Major Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper West Denkyira District of the Central Region, when he was allegedly mistaken for a robber.

The president prior to the burial of the late officer said the lost was unfortunate and the promotion was to honour the fallen hero.

But a fierce critic of the president, Koku Anyidoho, a Deputy General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians not to give the president any credit for promoting the late Military officer who was lynched to death to a major.

According to him, the president did nothing extraordinary in promoting the late Mahama because he wrote and passed his exams and was due for promotion hence Nana Addo cannot take credit for that.

The refusal of Nana Addo, who is the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, to grace the funeral was bad and an insult to the army adding it would not have happened in the era of late Mills, former presidents Rawlings, Kuffour and Mahama.

Nana Addo he added has no respect for the military despite the promises made in 2016. He concluded by stating that the Military have not received their allowances and from all indications, the president is no more interested in the affairs of the military men.
