Nigeria FA vice president commends GFA for decision to allow GHPL go autonomous

Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mallam Shehu Dikko has commended the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana Football Football Association for it's decision to institute an independent Ghana Premier League.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) earlier this week commenced plans to make the country's top flight independent of the football's governing body.

The championship is currently run by the Premier League Management Committee of the FA, who replaced the Premier League Board (PLB) last year.

This move is what has "excited the Nigeria Football chief, Dikko, who doubles as the Chairman of the Independent Nigeria League Management Company (LMC).

The LMC, created in 2005 and restructured in 2012, has led to massive reforms and improvements in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Speaking to Saddick Adams on Accra-based Angel FM, Dikko, who has overseen these drastic overhaul of the Nigerian competition says he is excited by Ghana's step and believes the Ghanaian championship will reap huge dividends soon.

"Globally that is how it is done. All the big leagues have done it".

"I think it is the best decision by the FA. Once the league goes independent it opens up the commercial activities of the league".

Commercially it will make the league more attractive. The league will be able to make it's own deals, get sponsorship with companies while the GFA does their own so at the end of the day it is the football that benefits

Dikko confirmed that Nigeria by virtue of its League being autonomous has been drafted into the prestigious World Leagues Forum which includes all the best football leagues in the World, an opportunity he says, will greatly benefit Ghana should the Ghana League run independently.
