The leaders of the Homeland Study Group Foundation have vented their spleen at “stomach politicians” who have abandoned their course and joined the Ghanaian politics.

They claim if politicians in their so-called country had stopped fighting for their stomach by declining positions from the Ghanaian government and rather fought for their common interest, they would have been independent by now.

“…For them because of their stomach; because of what they can eat today that is why they are doing those things because if they are serious citizens that hold this land in their heart they would have rather championed the future, progress of this land not their pockets and their stomach,” Spokesperson for the group, Nyakpo George, told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

Nonetheless, he will not fault voters who are exploited by the politicians on their soil giving them [voters] paltry sum of money to cajole and win their votes.

“When you’re hungry and someone brings you food, do you have a choice?” he questioned.

The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that members of the separatist movement calling itself the Homeland Study Group Foundation attempted to declare independent Western Togoland on 9th May 2019, hence their arrest.

Police in a statement following the arrest of the 8 persons including an 80-year-old man, said they had intel that the group following the plan were training some youth in “militia-style” to form the core of police and military activities in the supposed new country.

They had created a constitution and an anthem for the so-called independence, Police report said.

Commenting on the arrest of his colleagues in the struggle, George Nyakpo maintained that the group has lost every flavour that will fall on them as Ghanaians, hence they are prepared to fight for their independence to the letter.

Meanwhile, for those who were arrested by the Ghana Police, he said their lawyers are working tirelessly on the case to give them justice.
