The Interior Minister Ambrose Dery says the Akufo-Addo government is planning to motivate police officers who accept postings to rural parts of the country.
Speaking at a press encounter at Nandom in the Upper West Region, Mr. Dery, who is also the Member of Parliament for the area said a decision was reached at the last police council meeting to promote such officers a year ahead of their colleagues serving in city centres.
“There was a perennial problem with the security services especially the police, that if you transfer them to the Northern Region and certain parts of the country, they do not come. His Excellency the President has been innovative. At the police council meeting, a decision was taken that is meant to motivate the police to come to these so-called deprived areas.”
“The decision is that from the rank of constable to chief inspector, all those ranks who serve in these areas that are supposed to be unattractive will get their promotion one year ahead of their colleagues in the more endowed areas,” he said.
