Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashaiman municipality today, Monday, 22 July 2019 demonstrated to push for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alfred Okyere for making the party unattractive.
According to the spokesperson of the demonstrators, Idrissu Nuhu, the MCE has, over the past years, taken the administration of the area solely into his hands and sidelined other key officers in the municipality.
The situation, he said, has painted the party black in the constituency and risks ruining its electoral chances in the 2020 polls.
The demonstrators wielded placards with inscriptions such as “Hon Albert Okyere, stop selling public lands”, “Hon Albert Okyere, your office is not a shrine, so, stop sending eggs and Schnapps there”, “We’ll not sit under high tension or waterlogged areas”, “Hon Albert Okyere wants to make President Akufo-Addo a one-term president” among others.
They are, therefore, calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Mr. Okyere to save the image of the party in the constituency.
