Exactly five years ago, the vice-president of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that ‘Ghanaians are tired’ of then President John Dramani Mahama’s administration as it was brimming with hardship and corruption.

Dr. Bawumia called out to Ghanaians to vote the former president out of power when he piloted a demonstration of about a thousand people in the Upper East Region to express their grievances about the country’s economic state.

“We are going to fight dumsor, we are tired of corruption and we’re tired of lies… we’ll let the country know we are tired and we are ready for change and ready for Nana Addo and the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

The vice presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to vote out the John Mahama-led administration because “Ghanaians are tired” of the festering corruption and hardship.

Dr Bawumia made the call when he led about a thousand people in the Upper East region who were demonstrating against suffering in Ghana.

Ghana’s economy is going through hard times and the government has resorted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout of $940 million to salvage it.

The locals in the Upper East region hit the streets on Thursday to register their displeasure over the tough times.

Speaking to the crowd, the former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana said the best way to solve Ghana’s problems now is to vote against the ruling National Democratic Congress come the 2016 elections.

“We are going to fight dumsor, we are tired of corruption and we’re tired of lies,” Dr. Bawumia charged. “We’ll let the country know we are tired and we are ready for change and ready for Nana Addo and the New Patriotic Party.”

Speaking on the same platform, NPP lawmaker Dominic Nitiwul also called for change in 2016 because “everywhere you go the word is that ‘we’ll change them and we are going to change the NDC’, John Mahama has disappointed us. We are suffering. We shall change Mahama and his MPs.”
