Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has opened up on Andre Ayew’s reaction to the captaincy brouhaha that hit the Black Stars ahead of the 2019 AFCON.

A seemingly steady Black Stars boat was rocked by Kwasi Appiah’s decision to ring changes in the leadership of the team’s playing body, barely a month to the tournament.

Asamoah Gyan who had been skipper since 2013 lost his role to Andre Ayew who was his deputy.

An explosive letter and retirement is how Gyan reacted to Appiah’s move, prompting a series of activities including a meeting with the President of the country.

Cool heads eventually prevailed as Gyan rescinded his retirement decision and jumped on board the AFCON ship.

Wakaso is a close pal of Andre Ayew and has revealed how the Swansea attacker dealt with the issue.

He said that Ayew took the issue in a calm manner and was not distracted by how it played out in the media.

Wakaso adds that as a friend he advised Andre Ayew to accept the new role and see it as a chance to serve the country.

“He didn’t look disturbed at all but I advised him that everything in this world is time-bound. If it’s yours, it’s for you so if you’ve been given the opportunity to serve, grab it. If we had won the tournament, he would have been praised as the captain”.
