Suspended National Youth Organiser of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Ernesto Yeboah, has said Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr William Quaittoo, has demonstrated true leadership with his resignation.
He resigned after describing northerners as “difficult” and “liars”, a description which got several Ghanaians and northerners incensed. He tendered his resignation to the president on Tuesday, 29 August following an unreserved apology.
Commenting on the matter on his Facebook page, Mr Yeboah said: “I am pleasantly surprised by the leadership shown by the Deputy Agric Minister. He has earned my utmost respect.”
Meanwhile the Dagbon Youth for Development (DVD) has welcomed the resignation of Deputy Minister.
A statement by the youth said: “The leadership of Dagbong Youth for Development (“DYD”), on behalf of all Dagbong youth say thank you to the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, members of the ruling party and all Ghanaians for heeding to the demands of all northerners in general, and the Dagbong Kingdom specifically.
“We express no joy that the deputy minister “resigned”, but because the president agreed with us that the north and Dagbong deserve better and must be given nothing less. With the “resignation” of the deputy minister, we are optimistic that the president will choose someone who will understand that he or she is to represent, understand and serve every Ghanaian devoid of religious, tribal and or ethnic categorisation.
“Dagbong youth want to take this opportunity to send a word of caution to all government appointees, now and in the future, to be mindful of their language when addressing issues that bother Ghanaians. Public leaders are selected to be available for all – as such, making pronouncement that make certain groups of people to question one’s objectivity and ability to lead with a fair hand shall not be part of the traits of a public leader.
“We also want to add that the time when the north served as dump for all insults and name calling is over – we shall not sit unconcerned for any individual or group of individuals to drag the name of the north, and all its tribes in the mud. We are saying enough is enough!”
