MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has finally granted bail to Abdul Rashid Meizango who was arrested on Thursday by the Accra Regional Police Command in relation to the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
According to the police, when the suspect was taken to the CID headquarters, it emerged that he was a mistaken identity because family of the deceased who were called in could not identify him as the same person who was at Madina moments before the killing of the Tiger Eye PI Member.
Though the suspect was said to be at the scene of the confusion at a pub in Kotobabi when there were attempts to arrest someone they claimed was a suspect, he has no links with the murdered undercover journalist
He has since been granted bail to be reporting periodically but police have seized his mobile phone for analysis in order to facilitate their investigations.
The 29-year-old graduate of the Islamic University College, Ghana, it's gathered is the same person controversial New Patriotic Party (NPP) executive, Kwame Baffoe alias Abronye DC claimed that the Kotobabi police took huge bribes to release weeks ago.
According to the police, the suspect had revealed that he got information the Accra Regional Police Command was looking for him in connection with Suale’s murder and therefore wanted assistance to get to authorities to stop pursuing him.
“We had information that the suspect called a Policeman that he has got information that the Accra Regional Police Command is looking for him in connection with Suale’s death and that he wants the Policeman to assist him so the Accra Regional Police will stop pursuing him.
“He asked the Police to meet him at West Hills Mall so he will give some amount of money to give to the police officers who are looking for him. So we asked our men to arrange the Policeman he will call. He went and laid ambush at West Hills Mall and when he came we got him arrested. We brought him to Accra Regional Police headquarters and now we have transferred him to Police CID headquarters because that is where they are investigating that murder case” Acting Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwaku Boadu Peprah revealed.
