Outside everyone is free to speak whatever they feel comfortable with. The English language takes you further in communicating international this is what we have to remind ourselves.

Mr Mnka we are talking of Ghana first. THe Chinese, the Japanese, the Dutch, the Swedes, etc., all do admit that the English language is the language of intenational communication. But these countries teach and learn in their own national languages above all while promoting English for interaction with the international community !! We must encourage the correct learning of our indigenous languages while maintaining English as a national one. !

Local languages are even examinable at the BECE level. The question is, why are increasing number of students of nowadays unable to read??? UNCOMMITTED TEACHERS, poorly remunerated and who are continually been given more task. A frustrated teacher stands behind a crowd of 50 or so students without textbooks and you expect these children to know how to read? Is the teacher a magician? Address the actual problem: train and recruit more teachers, pay them well, reduce the number of students they have to teach to reasonable levels, and the situation will change.

that is madness if you post an Ashanti man to upper west and want him/her to use local language? is this not really madness? The whole educational structure needs a reform.

Look, children are unable to read because they rely too much on electronic gadgets. In the 60s, 70s etc, what was the result in our schools? Children love their phones etc more than get glued to their books.

Leaders of today are dangerously destroying our educational system. My father could learn and speak English and latin fluently then and still majored in his local language without laid down policy on that.New generations are lazy and going through socio/economic and psychological challenges that hamper their development. You must as well set the exam questions in local languages and see happens to your educational system.
Already social media kind of expressions and writings are been introduced by these students causing their abysmal performances in schools and now want to compound the problem.
As an examiner how do you feel seen students joining English and local language together?Ghana has a long way to go with current leadership.

I have been praying about this thing years ago and think, God has heard my prayers. Ghana will never develop if we continue to stay under the control of our masters. We got our independent over sixty year's ago but, it seems to me that, we are still under the slavery. We don't have liberty to speak our own language in school. My parents thought me their language till I got to age three. When I started my education, I have to start learning the masters language before the teacher will teach me how to build engine. So you can see, it would take me years to be a white boy who started building an engine at the young age. Because, English is his own language. He doesn't have to learn any other languages before he start building engine. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russia, etc are able to do a lot because, they use their own language. Let's wake up Africans.
