Mr. Joseph Donkor, Kumawu Constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, is in trouble for an alleged loose statement he made against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which was aired on Kumasi-based Kessben FM.

Mr. Danso is on tape issuing threats, and dared the President to nominate any person for the post of District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Kumawu district, without his consent.

“Should Akufo-Addo nominate someone as the DCE for Sekyere Kumawu against my will, the repercussions would be dire, and that the Kumawu Township will be set upside-down,” the embattled Constituency Chairman is reported to have said.

As a result, grassroots supporters of the party in the Kumawu constituency, and other party stalwarts, are calling for the resignation of the Chairman.

Addressing a news conference at Kumawu, Mr. Jacob Sarpong, leader of the grassroots supporters, explained that the diabolical secret plan by their Chairman had brought the hard-earned reputation of the NPP into disrupt.

He continued that the pronouncement by Chairman Danso has undermined the integrity and challenged the President and Commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

In the face of the allegations, the group said: “We the grassroots supporters of the NPP in the Kumawu constituency are, today, asking the Chairman to honourably resign from his post.

“We believe that the continuous stay in office of Chairman Danso, pending the nomination of [a] DCE by the President, is a threat to the peace and stability of the entire Sekyere Kumawu district.”

Mr. Sarpong, on behalf of the group, issued a three-day ultimatum to Mr. Danso to vacate his post, cautioning that refusal to do so, will see them petitioning the Ashanti regional executive and President Akufo-Addo.

In another development, three card-bearing members of the Dankwa-Dombo-Busia movement, in the persons of Atta Yeboah Marfo, Samson Ayarkwa and Samson Osei Assibey, all of the Kumawu constituency, have petitioned the Disciplinary Committee to take appropriate measures to deal with the subject matter, per the constitution of the elephant party.

They accused their superior of unruly conduct, stressing that his conduct is an ‘abomination’, having soiled the name of the ‘great Elephant Family’ and abused his office.

The trio reminded the Disciplinary Committee that: “No matter what position one holds, nobody in the NPP has the right to issue such a threat, let alone, to the President,” adding that to issue such threats and dare the President, as the appointing authority, has the potential to disparage him and cause dissatisfaction for him and the party he leads.

They noted that the ominous statement by Chairman Danso, if not appropriately addressed, shall set a very bad example for many to emulate.

In a telephone interview with the embattled Chairman, he debunked the allegation, describing it as a lie.

He questioned why he would attack the President whom he campaigned for.

According to him, some elders in the party want the Presidency to field an undeserving person as DCE in the district, hence they want to defame him to have their way.

Mr. Danso explained: “I had a meeting with party members in the house, but somebody recorded and edited my voice. I have not spoken anywhere as claimed.”
