The outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Dr Prosper Akanbon has expressed his readiness to handover the administration of the premier hospital of the north to a new person duly appointed by the appropriate authorities.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo Constituency in the Upper East Region, Edward Bawa who revealed this on Asempa Fm, said he will however do that when the necessary procedures are followed to see his exit.

“I happen to have spoken with the outgoing CEO who is my friend and he said he is ready to handover but demanded that they come with the necessary documentation. It is a teaching hospital and for reference sake he needs to follow the necessary procedure”, he revealed.

Dr. Prosper Akanbon on Monday refused to hand over office to a newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Zawumya Kobila, which resulted in some controversy.

A scheduled handing over ceremony which was getting to the climax was abruptly aborted after Dr. Akanbon had allegedly received a call from an unknown source.

The outgoing CEO insisted that he could not hand over office to the new CEO because he was yet to receive a formal letter from the Ministry of Health suggesting he was dismissed or transferred to a different facility.

But his action stirred up the angers of some footsoldiers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had come in their numbers to witness the ceremony and usher the new CEO into office.

They insisted on Dr. Prosper Akanbon to hand over immediately or incur their wrath, but for the timely intervention of the new CEO and the Special Aide of the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Bawumia.

Dr. Akanbongwho refused media interview quickly and left the scene to avoid any confrontations from the angry NPP youth.
