And the job of the customs are to see that the goods declare by the agent are the same,also check the value give to the product are correct n the harmonise code use for the goods are also correct. Every country that you want to clear your goods you need an agent to represent you n the customs officer would do his/her physical examination in the all world

There is no officer or agent at our ports especially Tema who can say they are not corrupt and their salary is the income they depend on they have made it soo had in terms of cash Wise and time to clear your goods out of the port bringing goods from abroad to Ghana is not attractive not to mention high cost of clearing goods and delay of clearing goods. We are warning Nana Akufo Ado we know you know this practices is going at the nation entry points and we expect you to do something about it if by the end of your first term you have not put a stop to corruption with the so called AGENTS and corrupt OFFICERS remember you are going to be only one term President. Atta Mils was the only President who went out there trying to put a stop to corruption at the port.

reply to Mr. Eagles: importing goods in commercial quantity through Tema Port requires that you do the following:
1. register with GRA for TIN (be it individual or company)
2. process IDF using the Gcnet/PAARS system
3. process CCVR using the PAARS system
4. process permits or exemption if applicable
5. process customs declaration using the Gcnet system
6. Pay duties and taxes at Gcnet receiving banks
7. vetting of all relevant document at customs compliance unit
8. pay all relevant shipping charges and effect cargo release order
9. proceed to the container terminal for your container to be positioned for customs examination
10. invite all relevant government agencies having interest in your consignment (like FDA, GSA etc...)
11. if examination is satisfactory then the examination officer releases you using the Gcent.
12. proceed to the OIC for final release
13. pay all relevant terminal handling charges and collect your waybill
14. arrange with a transporter to pickup your container for you, the truck loads the container and wait for gate-out procedures
15. process gate-out at customs preventive units
16. final checks are done at the exit gate
17. once you are out, empty container has to be returned to the shipping line
18. in-case you made any cash deposit with the shipping line, once you return their empty container, you apply for a refund.
19. THE ENTIRE CLEARING IS NOW COMPLETE
pls note that the above is just a general guide, there are other ways of handling import cargo, and it all depends on the type and nature of the cargo and how the imoport want it cleared (eg. direct duty paid, warehousing, transit etc...)
pls not that if an individual can do all of the above then you dont need a clearing agent but in-case you cant pls contact an agent.
mind you, there are good agents and bad agents, so be very careful who you deal with ! cheers !

BUT IT CAN AS WELL BE ERADICATED WHEN WORKERS TO BE ENGAGED AT ALL SECTORS IN THE COUNTRY ARE FIRST TRAINED AND ASKED AFTER THEIR TRASINING TO SIGN CONTRACTS THAT READS,ANYONE WHO IS CAUGHT IN BRIBERY AND CORRUTION MUST KNOW, HE WILL BE DISMISSED WHILE IN SERVICE WILL MEET THE FULL FORCE OF THE RULE OF LAW, DISMISSED AND PROSECTUTED AT THE LAW COURTS OF GHANA.

Custom officer n clearing agent our problem in correcting taxes. They both corrupt nana has to either change the process or change all officers n give new lincences to new agents the olds r not correct.

Ghana is not for honest people. If you want to be honest all these agencies will show you that you are a stupid man or woman. They will frustrate you into submission trying to force you to pay bribe with one delay or the other. If you think you can go through the process with order and dignity and the right way you are kidding yourself. Those who do wrong fly through the system with bribes and those who do the right thing are made to sit outside their offices or go from one officer to the other in circles for this check or that check or approval for weeks on end whilst you accrue port storage charges which these officers know full well and use it to their advantage.
