The Presidency has refuted claims that former Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. William Quaitoo, was "forced" out of office following comments he made that were largely deemed as offensive to northerners.
After making comments to the effect that people from the northern part of Ghana tend to lie and employ underhanded means to pilfer state funds, former Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture Quaitoo tendered his resignation to the President.
This, to the satisfaction of of many, some of whom has even stated that President Nana Akufo Addo should have dismissed the former Presidential appointee outright without giving him a chance to resign.
In the wake of Hon. William Quaitoo's resignation, rumours have emerged alleging that the embattled former Deputy Minister, under huge pressure, was "forced" to resign in light of the offensive comments he made.
Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin, has vehemently dismissed claims that pressure to resign was applied on Hon. Quaitoo. Mr. Arhin stated that thought the President had been contemplating a series of actions, Hon. Quaitoo was not under any pressure to resign from office from the government.
Going a little further, Mr. Arhin related that the every government appointee ought to remember the President's mantra, that government serves at the pleasure of the Ghanaian people.
"So whatever we do should be guarded and guided by the fact that there are over 25 million people who are scrutinising you on a daily basis to make sure that whatever it is you pledged or you promised to them you are delivering on that and if you fall short of that they will come after you.”
