President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
An aide to suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Davis Opoku, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the most ambitious president ever in the annals of the country's political history.
Explaining that, President Akufo-Addo happens to be the only President of Ghana to address his major flagship programs within the first year of his first term in office despite the challenges every president goes through in the first year of his reign.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Davis Opoku popularly known as OPK, who is also the Director of Operations for Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG), averred that it takes only ambitious president like Nana Akufo-Addo to start a flagship program such as Free SHS policy and Planting for Food and Jobs within the first year which is normally used to iron out the economic instability new government faces.
“We all know that when someone becomes a president, his first year in his term is a honeymoon and so it is normally the time he puts things in order and appoints his ministers and their deputies as well as those who will head the agencies and departments...no serious business is done in the first year but Nana Addo’s own is different as he hurriedly appointed his appointees and even extended parliamentary sitting to vet all his nominees”, he stated.
He stressed that “most of the flagship programs which were captured in NPP 2016 manifesto, the President has rolled them out. Firstly, the Free SHS program is very bold and decisive decision to start in the first year because people would have expected that he would take his time to stabilize the economy first before launching the program but Nana Addo didn’t do that; his first year in his first term, he has launched it”.
OPK added that the launch of ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ is another indication that President Akufo-Addo is a very enterprising leader who is bent on fulfilling all flagship programs as promised to Ghanaians.
“...the 2018 budget statement captured ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ program to create about 100,000 jobs for Ghanaians. The Forestry Commission intends to employ 15,000 workers from NYE and this tells you that the President is addressing the major needs of Ghanaians in his first year and that is why he remains the ambitious president to ever rule Ghana.”
“He has 4 years in his first term and it is expected that we can only do a proper assessment after he four years, but so far, from what I have seen and heard, he remains the most ambitious of all presidents who has ruled Ghana”, he emphasized.
