Ghana is a safe place to live and do business, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said.

According to him, in spite of terrorist attacks in some neighbouring countries, Ghana continues to remain safe due to the security measures put in place by government.

He however, said some of the causes of terrorist activities including youth unemployment must be dealt with in ensuring that terrorism is not given room in the country.

Speaking at the encounter with the press at the Flagstaff House on Wednesday, 17 January 2018, Mr Akufo-Addo said: “We have seen the outbreak of terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso, we know also about movement of jihadist forces in Northern Mali and in the Sahel Region.

“Ghana, in principle, cannot be exempt as a potential target so the security preparedness of our country is an extremely important matter.

“I think that as far as our status is concerned compared to many of the states in our region, so far so good, on our path.

“But it is an area where we can never let our guard down and we will have to continue to do all those things – sharing intelligence with others, beefing up our own capabilities.”

He added: “Also, of course dealing with some of the long term causes of terrorism in terms of economic development, employment of young people, rather than having a lot of idle young people on our hands, it is a comprehensive approach that we have to make. I think that Ghana is stabled, Ghana is secure, Ghana safe.”
