New executives have been elected to steer affairs Kuapa Kooko Farmers
The Kuapa Kooko Farmers’ Cooperative Union (KKFU) has held its annual delegates conference to elect new executives to steer affairs of the union for next the four years.
The colourful event which lasted for about five (5) hours took place in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi was attended by 171 delegates from Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central, Eastern and the Western regions.
At the end of the election, incumbent President, Madam Fatima Ali, retained her position through popular acclamation since she went unopposed. Mr. James Kwateng was elected as the Vice President whilst Madam Cecelia Appianim and Mr. Sampson Kobina got elected as Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer respectively.
The rest are Madam Mary Appiah, Mary Kossi and Ernest Boateng all elected as executive members. In a victory speech, President Fatima Ali lauded the delegates for reposing confidence in them. She however called on other loosing contestants to come on board with their ideas to move the union forward.
She debunked earlier speculations in the media that there was unrest in the union.
Madam Fatima Ali said the new executives are ready to work with all members for the betterment of union.
She therefore called on all cocoa farmers to join the Kuapa Kooko Union because they had good policies and plans to ensure the well being of farmers in the country.
She stated that Kuapa Kooko farmers Union had been able to introduce a new technology, System Tele Agric which gives farmers the chance to report cocoa diseases to Agriculture officers for solution whiles in their farms without traveling to any Agric office.
Madam Fatima Ali mentioned "one farmer, one laptop" project had also been launched to enhance the technological activities of cocoa farmers as well as free medical care for their members as some of the interventions put in place by her administration.
Some other unions and organisations which witnessed the election included Representatives and executives from the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), UTZ certification scheme, Rain forest alliance, Millennium Promise Alliance (MPA) and the National Cooperative association.
