Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said he remains loyal to the course of the government of Ghana and the Ministry of Information and would work to ensure the ministry works, regardless of party affiliations and differences.
According to him, spelling out details of a former administration’s performance or feats forms part of the Ministry’s mandate, hence, he will not refrain from meting out his responsibilities.
In view of that, if he is requested to provide information on the achievements of any past government, he won’t hesitate to he said.
“I had mentioned that the mandate of the ministry is to be the mouthpiece of the government of the republic, regardless of which party is or was in power. The work of the ministry is to ensure that what the government of Ghana has done, is doing, will be doing, are things that we are responsible for engaging the various stakeholders about”.
“If it has happened under any particular administration and I’m required to provide information on it, I will not go and tell a lie, for example, if the former administration completed 18 or 22 E-blocks, I will not go and tell a lie that they did not do anything at all, I will state the fact that about 18 or 22 E-blocks were completed and that there is this more that is to be done and that is what this administration will pick up” he told the committee in parliament Friday October 26, 2018.
Background
Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah took his turn before Parliament’s Appointments Committee to be vetted for his new portfolio.
The MP for Ofoase Ayirebi was named by President Akufo-Addo as the new Information Minister during the first ministerial reshuffle in this administration on August 9, 2018.
If approved, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah will replace Mustapha Hamid who is now Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development.
Other government appointees who were vetted Friday include Minister-designate of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison and Minister-designate of the Brong Ahafo Region, Evans Opoku Bobie.
The vetting of the appointees comes after their appointment by Akufo-Addo to serve in new capacities after he reshuffled his government.
The list of the nominees from the Presidency was forwarded to the committee by the Speaker, Prof Mike Oquaye earlier last month.
