U.S based Ghanaian lecturer Prof Stephen Asare aka Kwaku Azar has underscored the need for Ghanaians to recommit ourselves to be soldiers of the Constitution.

He also wants Ghanaians to also ensure that its (Constitution) every word, phrase or provision is giving effect to while fiercely resisting any attempts to corrupt its provisions to achieve narrow, parochial interests.”

He was reacting through a post in his official page about the celebration if the Constitution which received a presidential approval few weeks ago.

According to him, “the Constitution is our contract to establish a framework of government which provides us and our posterity the blessings of liberty, equality of opportunity and prosperity.”

He added that: “It is our collective covenant to be committed to Freedom, Justice, Probity and Accountability.

The Constitution is not perfect. No Constitution is. Notwithstanding its imperfections, we have had 6 general elections under it, including 3 instances of peaceful political alternation. That is outstanding, considering what we were used to.”

In his view “the Constitution is also a living document. Its quality of life depends on the nutrition that we provide it.

That is why on Constitution day, we must recommit ourselves to be soldiers of the Constitution and ensure that its every word, phrase or provision is giving effect to while fiercely resisting any attempts to corrupt its provisions to achieve narrow, parochial interests.

Whether you are at the beer bar or at the chop bar, Happy First Constitution Day,” his post concluded.
