The family of the late Dr Kwadjo Opare-Hammond, the former Managing Director (MD) of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the first Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, have scheduled his funeral for March 2, 2019, at Adentan in the Greater Accra Region.

According to Dr Opare-Hammond’s eldest son, Benjamin Opare-Hammond, there will be a family gathering on March 1, 2019, to be followed by a pre-burial service on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

He said his dad returned from Dubai on Thursday, January 10, 2019, and complained to his mother that he was unwell, so he went to the hospital on that same day and he was given some drips.

“At 2 am on Friday, he was rushed to the Legon Hospital, he received oxygen and later my sister who is a medical doctor asked that he is taken to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital,” Benjamin narrated to GhanaWeb.

Doctors at Legon and Korle Bu according to Ben gave his Dad the best treatment.

“Even though his oxygen level wasn’t stable, he was, however, responding to treatment, but pronounced dead later in the day,” he said with grief.

Dr Kwadwo Opare-Hammond died on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.

He was appointed MD of the mineral trading firm in 2017.

Under his reign, the PMMC and the Ghana Royal Gold Limited Company entered into a partnership to construct a state-owned gold refinery which is expected to create 1000 jobs in 2019.

In 2014, Dr Opare-Hammond was relieved of his post as Director of Finance and Administration of the New Patriotic Party following allegations of financial impropriety and disobedience to then National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

In 2004, he became the first Member of Parliament for Adenta Constituency after the constituency was separated from the Ashaiman Constituency.
