Wear light clothing as a way of preventing heat exhaustion - NADMO to public

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is cautioning the general public to wear light clothing and drink plenty of fluids (cool water, juices) as a way of preventing heat exhaustion.

Heat exhaustion according to NADMO is a condition where symptoms may include heavy sweating and a rapid pulse, a result of your body overheating. "This occurs after one is exposed to high temperatures and is often accompanied by dehydration," NADMO explains in a statement copied to GhanaWeb

"The average temperature across the country, on Wednesday 6th March 2019, is expected to be the highest for the week; rising from approximately 39°C to 42°C in the afternoon. Therefore the risk of heat-related illness is most likely," the statement reads on

NADMO, however, advised that the public should avoid tight clothing, drinking of caffeine and alcohol.

Heat Exhaustion Alert from NADMO

Heat exhaustion is a condition where symptoms may include heavy sweating and a rapid pulse, a result of your body overheating. This occurs after one is exposed to high temperatures and is often accompanied by dehydration.

In view of this, NADMO wishes to alert the general public to take the following precautionary measures:

*Drink plenty of fluids (cool water, juices)

* Avoid caffeine and alcohol

* Avoid tight clothing

* Wear light clothing
