Renowned architect, Sir David Adjaye’s involvement in the design and construction of some landmark projects in the country has raised concerns within the architectural industry and received massive backlash from several Ghanaians.

This has made a Ghanaian architectural firm; Design and Associates Development Consortium petition President Akufo-Addo over the award of 12 state-funded projects to David Adjaye & Associates firm questioning the basis on which Adjaye had been awarded certain developmental projects in Ghana since 2017.

Although Sir Adjaye has refuted the allegations saying it is “doing legitimate business in the country and has not infringed any laws”, Minister of State in Charge of Procurement, Adwoa Safo said the petition to Akufo-Addo by some local architects is a step in the right direction and will probe how all 12 contracts were awarded to one firm.

Gregory Afoko’s trail and matters arising from it were touched on in Saturday’s edition of Newsfile on Joynews. An Accra High Court presided over by Justice George Buadi in March this year after listening to the arguments granted Afoko bail in the sum of GH¢500,000.00 with two sureties, one to be justified.

But for over 4 months the order was disregarded by the state with two attempts to have the decision reversed, at the High court and later the Appeal’s court which both failed.

However, on Monday, 15th July, 2019 an Accra High court rescinded its decision to grant the suspect bail.

Other issues discussed include the Judgment debt conundrum where the state has accrued GHC283 million in three years and the lamentations of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu over how heads of state institutions are making his work difficult.
