Two Greeks and a Ukranian have been arraigned in Accra for allegedly intercepting government communications.
The three, Vasileios Stoumpos (CEO of Stoubos Limited), Viktoriia Kryytska, and Vasileios Marios Blanas, allegedly gained access to telephone, email and WhatsApp conversations of some “high-profile” officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The activities were reportedly detected by operatives of the National Security who intercepted some communications between the three foreigners and some other individuals alleged to be senior members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Court appearance
Before an Accra Circuit Court, the three are facing two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and unauthorized access to electronic material. The plea of the three could not be taken because the case is still under investigations.
Bail
Counsel for the accused, Sampson Lardy Ayenini, pleaded the court to grant the suspects bail, pending the conclusion of investigations and possible trial.
Presiding over the court, Ruby Quayson granted them bail of GH¢50, 000 each with two sureties, both of whom must be Ghanaians, earning not less than GH¢1,500 a month.
The Greek suspects were further ordered to report to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) every Tuesday. They are also to deposit their passports to the court registrar and must seek the permission of the court before leaving the country.
The court also ordered that the status of the suspects be made known to the Ghana Immigration Service as well as the police.
