With the corruption tag hanging on the neck of the National Democratic Congress’, (NDC) Presidential candidate, and also the former President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Patriots for Peace and Development (PPD) is calling on the leadership of the party to organize an extra-ordinary congress in earnest to re-elect a new candidate that would lead the party for the 2020 general elections.

“This is just a harmless advice we are giving out to the rank and file of the NDC party. It is our expectation that they would consider this advice in good faith without any malice”, it said in a statement.

The PPD is of the view that it would be in the interest of the party to put out a candidate which has more credibility for the 2020 general election.

In a statement issued in Accra and signed by Richard Danso, there is the need for the NDC party to organize an early congress to disqualify John Mahama in the face of all these brouhaha and fill in a clean and more qualified candidate.

“Eminent people with much more credibility like Prof Joshua Alabi, Hon Alban Bagbin , Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Sylvester Mensah , Kwesi Ahwoi among others could be considered as a presidential candidate.

The NDC party must tread cautiously since this big scandal would definitely have some ripple effect on the chance of the party during the 2020 general elections.

The UK court documents said between 2009 and 2015, some top Ghanaian officials allegedly received bribes from Airbus, one of the biggest aircraft manufacturers in the world, to grant the company business favour.

Although no name has been mentioned, John Mahama’s service during that administration has generated speculations that his chances of staging a comeback in 2020 may be affected.
