In spite of the increasing numbers of Ghana’s coronavirus cases in all but one region of the country, several stakeholders have doubted government’s ability to indeed curb the spread. Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, however, believes otherwise.

In fact, he has expressed satisfaction with the way and manner in which the Akufo-Addo-led administration has handled the coronavirus pandemic, so far.

In his opinion, the government deserves a pat on the back for its relentless efforts.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw scored President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government 80 per cent for making good use of the country’s scarce resources to fight the invisible enemy.

He said although there has been some unexpected challenges and controversies, which no country anticipated, government has done “marvellously well and need to be commended.”

“…They’ve done well I give them 80 per cent because, given the challenges about economic situations, our level of development and infrastructure as well as, our ability to handle such massive invasion of this virus, I think they’ve done well…,” he said.

While striking a comparison between some developed countries, Lawyer Ampaw said Ghana’s performance so far surpasses countries like the United States of America.

“…If you look at countries like the US and other countries, what has happened to them and to compare to Ghana, with our limited resources being a developing country handicap in so many ways, our challenges with the health sector, infrastructure and even money. I think the Akufo-Addo government has done marvellously well and they need to be commended,” Lawyer Ampaw concluded.

So far, Ghana’s active cases have risen to 5,193. Greater Accra Region remains the area with the highest number of cases having recorded 5430 so far.

Ahafo Region is the only area with no recorded cases of the Coronavirus.
