Institutions have been urged to be mindful of how their clients and workers use the clock-in devices and Automated Teller Machines (ATM) at banks to ensure that the devices do not become an avenue for the spread of COVID-19.

Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, the Deputy Minister of Information, who gave the caution, said this was important due to the outbreak of the virus at a fish-processing factory in Tema which infected 533 workers.

The Minister said this at a media briefing in Accra to provide situational update on the country’s case management of COVID-19.

He said it is important for institutions especially banks to on a regular basis ensure that these machines are disinfected after every use while sanitizing the hands as well adding that, this was critical in the fight against the spread.

“It is important that the banks themselves put some of these measures in place to deal with some of these things because at a personal level one also has to learn to either sanitize or wash the hands under running water after using the ATM,” he said.

Mr Hadzide urged Ghanaians to continue adhering to the safety protocols to contain the spread of the disease.
