Jaman South Assembly announces temporary restriction on Drobo market

The Jaman South Municipal Assembly in the Bono region has announced a temporary restriction on the Drobo market.

The temporary restriction prevents traders not resident in the municipality from visiting the Drobo market on the weekly market days.

The ban which came into force on May 8, 2020, also affects all other market venues in the municipality.

The Assembly reveals the move forms part of the Assembly’s measures to control the spread COVID-19 and ensure adherence to the social distance protocol at market venues.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Abuu, the assembly will also be enforcing the compulsory use of face mask by residents at all public places.

“As part of measures to control the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure strict adherence to the social distancing in the markets, Jaman South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Jaman South Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee have closed all markets in the Municipality to traders not resident in the Municipality on all market days".

“We take the opportunity to that all protocol including the compulsory use of nose masks by everybody in the Municipality is in force”.

Even though the move by the Assembly has been welcomed by residents, there are divided opinions on its successful implementation.

Last week, Ghanaweb reported on the non-compliance with the social distancing directive at the Drobo market.

Whilst the various designated market centres by the Assembly were overcrowded with people, the directive on the compulsory wearing of face masks to all public places was not in full force.
