Tricycle drivers at Berekum have appealed to the Regional Minister, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson, to lift the ban on their trade to allow them to work.

The drivers told Rainbow Radio’s Abdul Razak they would be forced to start working on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, should the minister fail to address their concern.

The drivers told our reporter they have been deprived of their livelihoods and unable to fend for their families.

The activities of the riders were suspended as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

But the drivers say they can no longer bear the financial difficulties hence was the ban on them to be lifted.

Meanwhile, using tricycles for commercial transport is a breach of section 128 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012, (LI 2180).

Section 128 of the Road Traffic Regulations states that, “the Licensing Authority shall not register a motorcycle or tricycle to carry a fare-paying passenger”.
