Addressing the gathering at the Ghana Teacher Prize 2019 at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi, Vice President, Dr Mahmoud Bawumia, conceded that teachers still have challenges that need to be addressed.

He, however, reaffirmed government’s commitment to empower and enhance the working condition of teachers across the country.

“We must and will continue to strive to make life better and more dignified for teachers. In line with government efforts to empower teachers to better their professional and social lives, the Ministry of Education and its agencies with support from development partners is collaborating with Norwegian teacher initiative to develop a comprehensive teacher policy”.

Comprehensive Sexual Education

Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh said the controversial Comprehensive Sexual Education was part of classroom agenda even before the Nana-Addo-led government came into office.

“It is a fact that manuals in teaching the CSE started in 2015. The CSE was part of the classroom agenda before President Nana Addo came to office. But cabinet has currently not approved any guidelines for CSE in Ghana”

Executive Secretary of National Teaching Council, Christian Addai-Poku, called for improved working condition for teachers.

He commended government for the introduction of the new curriculum to address the global learning crisis.
