Popular Ghanaian movie actor, Kwaku Manu has lauded his colleague, Agya Koo saying he alone saved the movie industry from dying following the emergence of Nigerian movies and needs to be praised.

Ghana’s legendary comedian Agya Koo, born Alex Kofi Adu indeed took the local movie to a different level when the industry was really struggling to grow.

Nigerian movies in the early 2000s took over the local market in the country claiming billions of cedis from Ghanaians to the detriment of what was being produced in Ghana at the time.

Though many movie producers struggled to save the industry, none was successful as the popularity of Nigerian movies soared to the disadvantage of the locally produced ones.

However, Agya Koo who was groomed into movie from the infamous ‘concert party’ with the help of Miracle Films made local movie popular, attractive and loved by most Ghanaian.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor before exiting power in 2008 honored him for his role in reviving the dying industry

Kwaku Manu who was commenting on the development said: “We must give him a standing ovation. He is my senior brother; I salute him with much respect and accept the fact that, indeed Agya Koo is a legend and needs to be celebrated as such”.
