Acting General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has stated that President Akufo-Addo cannot in anyway be associated with any same-sex lobbyists to legalise homosexuality in the country.

“Not to talk about a friend to Andrew Solomon, a known homosexual who is moving for such things to happen. Nana is not associated with people like that” he stressed.

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia at the party’s unity walk in Kumasi claimed that the President has approved gay marriage in the country.

He said the President before the 2016 elections promised Ghanaian youth of marriage.

“Now you know what is coming….Nana Addo says men will marry men, and women will marry women” Johnson Aseidu Nketia told his party supporters.

But John Boadu speaking at a press conference on the party’s upcoming delegate’s conference stated “this is nothing but a baseless and vile fabrication, by no less a person than the General Secretary of the leading opposition party in Ghana. For the avoidance of doubt, President Akufo-Addo has never stated anywhere that, under his presidency, "men will marry men, and women will marry women."

John Boadu added that a character like Asiedu Nketiah who has reduced an otherwise serious business of politics to comic relief.

He further reiterated the President’s position that he remains focused on delivering on his mandate, and improving on the quality of lives of the Ghanaian people.

“It will NOT be under his Presidency that same-sex marriage will be legalized in Ghana. We will neither ask for an apology or retraction from the NDC General Secretary, who, obviously, is still stuck in the age of the politics of lies, deceit and propaganda, which was rejected decisively by discerning Ghanaians in the 2016 general elections.”

He however appealed to Ghanaians “to once again, ignore the falsehoods of the NDC, and urge Mr. Asiedu Nketia to concentrate his energies on uniting his divided and discredited party.”
