Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has said that government eased the various restrictions put in place to fight COVID-19 to give an opportunity to the NPP to run its Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries.

Akufo-Addo in his tenth address to the country said Ghana is currently running phased ease of measures put in place to fight the deadly COVID-19.

As a result, religious activities have started across the country although some Churches that seem not to be ready have decided to continue with their virtual services.

But speaking in a virtual address to the citizens of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama said government did not decide to phase out the measures in fighting the deadly virus because it took consideration of the people but rather to satisfy its parochial interest.

He said the strategy of this government is to seek head immunity because they had lost the battle to contain the virus so they decided to open up the country and ease things so people could go out. He said if a lot of people get infected of the virus, the virus will have nowhere else to go and it will disappear.

He said the country’s figures continue to go up because of the government’s approach of seeking head immunity adding that countries that have taken this strategy have recorded outrageous number of deaths and there is therefore the to use the right strategy.

John Dramani Mahama said government needs to seek expert advise and stop dabbling in narrow political interest.

“I know that the easing and all is to create a conducive environment so that the EC can go ahead with their new register and the NIA can continue with their issuance of the Ghana card and of course so that the ruling party the NPP can hold their congress to elect their flagbearer and Parliamentary candidates.”, he said.
