Alabaster Box billed for West Africa's biggest gospel show

Ghana's leading acappella group, Alabaster Box would be on the same stage with several of the world's gospel music greats at the this year's 'The Experience' event in Lagos, Nigeria.

Slated for Friday, December 5, 2014, the half night show would feature top-notch gospel acts like Donnie McClurkin, Don Moen, Micah Stampley, Sinach, Chioma Jesus, Onos, Midnight Crew of 'Igwe' fame, Nathaniel Bassey, Frank Edward, Angela Christie and Adom Praiz 2014 headliner Israel Houghton among several others.

This is the ninth edition of 'The Experience' organised by House on The Rock in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event comes off at the 500,000-seater and luxurious Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), with an adjoining cricket pitch.

Alabaster Box is the first gospel music act from Ghana to be invited to 'The Experience', which is by far the biggest gospel music event in West Africa, if not the whole of Africa.

“It is rare to have all these gospel music greats on one stage on one night and we are privileged to have been invited to share the stage with people who have made such great impact on us with their ministry,” leader of Alabaster Box, Sammy Dowuona said in an interview.

Sammy said Alabaster Box first visited the elegant House on the Rock earlier this year to minister on a Sunday at the invitation of the head pastor, Rev. Paul Adefarasin.

“Prior to that we had heard a lot about 'The Experience' so when pastor Paul, as he is affectionately called, brought it up in our chat with him and said he was going to invite us this year we were just blown away with joy,” he added.

According to Sammy, mounting that big stage, which has been mounted by almost all the gospel music artistes who matter in the world, puts a big responsibility on the shoulders of Alabaster Box, but with God's grace they are sure to be a blessing to the hundreds of thousands of audience expected to attend the event.

“We are expecting a bigger crowd this year so preparations are being put in place to ensure everyone is accommodated. We have new foreign and indigenous artistes gracing 'The Experience' for the first time. Also because God is not limited we are expecting a greater outpouring of His presence and His Spirit as compared to previous years,” organizers said in an email to Myjoyonline.com.

They added that 'The Experience' is going to be approximately 12 hours of pure worship, and genuine entertainment.

Alabaster Box is scheduled to leave Accra on Thursday, December 4, 2014 for the event on the following day.
