All six in a family admitted to hospital after eating banku

Akorabuokrom, (Ash), August 15, GNA - All members in a family of six were admitted to the Nyinahin Government Hospital after they had taken a meal of banku (made from maize) at Akorabuokrom near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District last weekend.

Mr. Isaac Danquah, 37, father, his wife Mary Bamfoawaah, 35 and their four children who are 15, 12, 10 and five years of age diagnosed of having eaten poisonous food are responding to treatment according to medical personnel at the hospital.


Dr. Issifu Adamu, Senior Medical Officer of the hospital, told the Ghana News Agency that all six were brought to the hospital vomiting and complaining of severe stomach ache.

He said Mr Danquah told him that he treated some maize with DDT (an agro chemical) for sowing in his farm but after the exercise, his wife washed the rest of the maize and prepared the banku with it.
