Aye Kokooso community marks maiden Odwira festival

Aye Kokooso (E/R), July 6, GNA - The chiefs and people of Aye Kokooso in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District of the Eastern Region, have celebrated their maiden annual Odwira festival in grand style, after getting the go ahead from the Abuakwa Traditional Council.

Barima Addo Bekoe II, the 97-year-old Chief of the town, told the Ghana News Agency at Aye Kokooso near Amanase, that although he received the permission to celebrate the festival five years ago, from the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Overlord of the traditional council, he decided to put in measures to make it a grand success. The chief who succeeded his late brother, Odikro Odartey 16 years ago as Odikro (sub-chief) is now a fully fledged chief who sits on a black stool and rides in a palanquin.

He said since his enstoolment he had committed about GHC 55,000, towards the development of the town, which include a modern palace with a court room, drummer's lounge, an auditorium and a community school. Barima Bekoe however appealed to the government to assist the people with social amenities such as a police station, road coverts and improve on the Aye Kokooso - Aye Junction and Aye Kokooso - Suhum roads. He also asked the District Assembly to provide the town with its share of development projects. 06 July 09
