Former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Rachel Appoh
A former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection under the Mahama administration has called on Ghanaians to tone down with their criticism of actress Nana McBrown.
The celebrated actress has become the subject of a barrage of attacks in recent weeks after a video of her deep kissing and licking the hands of her one-year-old daughter went viral on social media.
The video also drew condemnations from some pundits on US-based television Fox5 DC.
But Rachel Appoh who conceded that Nana McBrown might have gone over-board with the treatment of the daughter, believes that public scathing does no one favours.
She, in a statement expressed concern with the development which she maintains could haunt the child in future.
She attributed the actress’ actions to the innate love mothers usually have for their children.
“The Office of the Former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children And Social Protection has noted with concern the public bashing following actress, Nana Ama McBrown licking the mouth and hands of her daughter in public”.
“As a former Deputy Gender Minister in charge of social warefare, I wish to add my voice to calls urging for calm and to cease fire because of the innocent child involved.
“This has become necessary in view of the fact that the attacks on the actress particularly on social media and online news portals would hunt the child in future” excerpts of the statement read.
Rachel Appoh becomes the latest public figure to jump to the defense of the embattled actress.
Last week, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong and controversial actress Afia Schwarzenegger fired back at the critics.
Despite the attacks that have emanated from the video, Nana Ama McBrown is insist her actions were not out of place.
Do we have to talk about that?” Nana Ama responded when Joy News asked her about her reaction. “I got pregnant, I gave birth to my baby, and she’s my baby.”
“I just don’t want to comment about it but he who hasn’t sinned should cast the first stone. Anyone who has given birth and has held a baby will understand,” she added.
