South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has said the COVID-19 pandemic had a major negative impact on the world of employment.

Ramaphosa said this when he presented the results of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, for the first quarter of 2021, during a virtual speech.

"The number of the unemployed is growing, those who are actively looking for work but cannot find it", underlined the President, adding that "in this situation there are too many young people, of the 18 million men and women in the whole country, who constitute almost a third of the country's population."

He emphasized that till date, the Presidential Stimulus on Employment has supported nearly 700,000 people.

More than 11 billion rand has been allocated for the continuation of the President's Stimulus on Employment in the current financial year.

"The Presidential Stimulus has played a crucial role in following up vulnerable families to continue working and earning an income while benefiting the communities in which they are disbursed," noted Cyril Ramaphosa.
