Legendary highlife musician Kaakiyre Kwame Appiah has described those insulting veteran actor Agya Koo for publicly announcing his support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of this year’s polls as hypocrites.
The “Bronya” hitmaker speaking on Hello FM in Kumasi told Dave Hammer, host of Hello Entertainment Review that he sees nothing wrong with the actor endorsing the leading opposition party. He said Agya Koo is beyond age 18 years so he has thought through his decision very well before making it public.
Kaakyire Kwame Appiah pleaded with Ghanaians not to insult the actor because this is not the first time a public figure is showing his support for a flag bearer ahead of election. The movie producer asked Ghanaians to focus on governance instead of criticizing someone who has endorsed a political party.
“I support Agya Koo for endorsing Nana Addo. Before Obama became a president, we had many stars supporting him so if Agya Koo says he is with NPP, let’s leave him alone.
He is above 18 years so he knows what he is doing. Nigeria’s president Buhari had a lot of public figures endorsing his candidature.
Some stars are supporting NDC so I don’t see anything wrong with him going to NPP.
We shouldn’t be angry and insult him. If there is anything going wrong in the country, lets voice it out because that is better than being hypocrite” Kaakyie Kwame Appiah told Dave Hammer.
When asked if celebrities endorsing political parties would win votes for them, he answered affirmative but quickly added that it depends on the individual.
